The Four Stages of Empowerment
Empowerment at PPDMS follows a clear sequence: approach, awareness, capacity building, and empowerment. In the approach stage, the organization builds trust with members one by one, often the hardest stage as it must overcome stigma. From this closeness grows the awareness that every person with disabilities is a subject of development, not merely a recipient of aid.
The next stages are awareness and capacity building. Members are encouraged to understand their rights and receive skills suited to their individual abilities. The culmination is empowerment: disability groups at the village level that manage activities independently, making PPDMS a model cited by UGM, UNY, UKDW, and UNNES.
Inclusive Economy
From Crafts to the European Market
Economic activity is a pillar for members to be financially independent. The flagship product is recycled-cloth doormats made by members with disabilities, reaching the European market, managed through cooperatives and internet marketing training.
PPDMS also develops batik and other crafts. The whole production chain involves members, so the economic value returns to them, proving that creative economy can reduce dependence on aid.
Inclusive Disaster
FDTB: Including Persons with Disabilities in Disaster Preparedness
Through the FDTB forum since 2018, PPDMS places persons with disabilities as key actors in disaster management. FDTB carries out revitalization, reforestation, and community-based preparedness.
Education
PUTPAT CAMAT for a Prepared Generation
PUTPAT CAMAT is an educational board game by PPDMS teaching disaster, disability, and general knowledge in a fun way, produced with the involvement of members with disabilities as a social enterprise.
