Background

Born of Concern, Growing as a Bottom-up Movement

PPDMS was founded on 9 May 2012 in Nglipar Village, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. It was born from the concern of Hardiyo and fellow persons with disabilities over the discriminatory label "Sehat Jasmani dan Rohani" and the wish to open public access for persons with disabilities who had long been marginalized.

Founded as a disability organization guided by the Yakkum Rehabilitation Center, PPDMS is now independent and covers more than 400 members across 18 sub-districts. Its programs are run directly by members, growing as a genuine bottom-up movement.

PPDMS is widely cited in research by UGM, UNY, UKDW, and UNNES as a model of inclusive empowerment in Indonesia.

Vision & Mission

Resilient, Inclusive, and Prosperous Together

The vision of PPDMS is to nurture kinship, cooperation, and open public access for the welfare of persons with disabilities and their families. This is realized through four interconnected missions carried out in sequence.

Its missions include strengthening kinship among persons with disabilities, improving knowledge and skills toward independence and competitiveness, fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities, and achieving welfare through empowerment at the village level.

Our Programs

Our Real Steps

All PPDMS programs follow a four-stage empowerment model: approach, awareness, capacity building, and village-level empowerment. In the economy, members are empowered through recycled-cloth doormats reaching European markets, batik, and internet marketing training.

For inclusive disaster resilience, the FDTB forum carries out revitalization, reforestation, and disaster preparedness. The PUTPAT CAMAT board game delivers education on disasters, disability, and general knowledge.

PPDMS also advocates inclusive village funds, health services, and skills training for persons with disabilities.
